How A Redhead Enjoys The Beach

A friend sent this to me after we vacationed together. She knows that skincare is my passion and I’m pleased to share my research and expertise. You may not like this little nugget, though. It’s about getting a base tan.

The base tan is a myth.

We’ve been led to believe that hitting up a tanning bed before heading somewhere tropical can help ward off a sunburn.

Harvard Medical School says that going out in the sun with a base tan is equivalent to wearing a sunscreen with an SPF of 3 or 4.

Imagine picking up a bottle of sunscreen and it has an SPF of 3. Or 4.

What are you paying for?

Most experts recommend a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Besides, tanning beds are super bad for you.

Back in 2009, the World Health Organization upgraded the classification of tanning beds from a probable carcinogen to a known carcinogen.

Translation: There is no doubt that indoor tanning can increase your cancer odds.

So, Cherise. Miss Preachy Pants. What are my options?

Go pasty white and light up that beach with your blinding white body and sparkling personality. Like I do. 😉

Or, go get a spray tan if you want to blend in better and look more local.

Whatever your strategy, be sure to slop on sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Wear a big hat.  Wear big sunglasses.

Take lots of shade breaks.  See the photo above for a tip on how I take shade breaks without even leaving the beach!
